Nicola Biggs

Legal Counsel

Nicola is a senior member of the Ontario Bar in Canada. She started her legal career as a law clerk for the Justices of the Court of Appeal of Ontario before working with the construction law and commercial litigation groups at Cassels Brock. Nicola then moved into the role of Legal Counsel with Honda Canada Inc., and subsequently joined the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (now the Global Automakers of Canada) as its General Counsel, where she advised the Association on legal matters as well as on policy matters concerning automotive industry initiatives. Nicola then extended her automotive industry network by joining Toyota Canada Inc., where she became Senior Counsel. In that role, she was responsible for all litigation disputes affecting the company and provided strategic advice and support in regulatory investigations and compliance matters. Additionally, she has also worked for Hyundai Capital of Canada, where she assumed the role of Director of Legal for Canada and where she was responsible for establishing and organizing the legal department in the newly formed captive finance company in Canada. In 2017, Nicola assumed the role of General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Volkswagen Group of Canada, where she was responsible for all legal matters affecting the organization. Throughout her career, Nicola also negotiated and drafted a wide range of commercial contracts for various entrusting clients such as the Dairy Farmers of Canada, and most recently with Mercedes Benz Canada Inc. She is a highly trusted advisor in the industry and brings a wealth of legal and business expertise to DSMA, particularly in the automotive world.
